The Book of Mystic Wisdom
as told by Philpop the Weary, magician to the, court of his mostsovereign Lord British
Know ye, 0 seeker of the mystic wisdoms, that the ways of magic are diverse and strange. There exists the need for utmost concentration and the harvesting of things magical in order that ye may harness the powers of the universe. Many are the eons of wisdom contained in these pages which I write for the benefit of my pupils, yet still there is much to learn.
All magic is accomplished by the use of means both human and of nature, for true magic, is but the melding of human will and natural force. Without the human voice to utter the chant, no spell may be cast. Yet without the proper natural catalyst, no spell may be effective. Thus magic is twofold, a balance struck between nature and humanity. Let us examine both aspects here, beginning with those natural substances, known as Reagents, that lend power to the words of the spellcaster.
---

7.01) Einleitung:
The day is warm, yes there is a cooling breeze. The latest in a series of personal crisis seems insurmountable. You are being pulled apart in all directions.
Yet this afternoon walk in the country-side slowly bring relaxation to your harried mind. The soil and strain of modern high-tech living begins to wash off in layers. That willow tree near the stream looks comfortable and inviting.
The buzz of dragonflies and the whisper of the willow's swaying branches bring a deep peace. Searching inward for transquility and happiness. You close your eyes.
A high-pitches cascading sounds like crystal wind-chimes impinges on your floating awareness. As you open your eyes, you see a shimering blueness rise from the ground. The sound seems to be emanating from this glowing portal.

It is difficult to look at the blueness. Light seems to bend and distort around it, while the sound waves become so intense, they appear to become visible.
The portal hangs there for a moment, then, with the rush of an imploding vacuum, it sinks into the ground. Something remains suspending in mid-air for a moment before falling to earth with a heavy thud.
Somewhat shaken by this vision, you rise to your feet to investigate. A crude circle of stones surounds the spot where the portal appeared. There is something glinting in the grass.

You pick up an amulet shaped like a cross with a loop at the top. It is an Ankh, the sacred symbol of life and rebirth. But this could not here made the thud, so you look again and find a large book wrapped in thick cloth !
With trebling hands you unwrap the book. Behold, the cloth is a map, and within lies not one book, but two. The map is of a land strange to you, and the style speaks of ancient cartography.
The script on the cover ot the first book is arcane but readable. The title is: The History of Britannia as told by Kyle the Younger.
The other book is disturbing to look at. Its small cover appears to be fashioned out of some sort of leathery hide, but from what creature is uncertain. The reddish-black skin radiates an intense aura suggestive of ancient power.
The tongue of the title is beyound you ken. You dare not open the book and disturb whatever sleeps within. You decide to peruse the History. Settling back under the willow tree, you open the book.
You read the book.
Closing the book, you again pick up the Ankh. As you hold it, you begin to hear a hauntingly familiar lute-like sound wafting over a nearby hill. Still clutching the strange artifacts, you rise unbidden and climb the slope.
In the ralley below you see what appears to be a flair. It seems strange that you come that way earlier and noticed nothing. As you mull this over, your feet carry you down towards the site.

This is no ordinary travelling carnival, but a Renaissance Fair. The pennants on the tent tops blow briskly in the late afternoon breeze.
The ticket taker at the RenFair's gate starts to ask you for money, but upon spotting your Ankh says, "Welcome, friend. Enter in peace and find your path."
The music continues to pull you forward amongst the merchants and vendors. Glimpses of fabulous treasures can be seen in some of the shadowy booths.
These people are very happy. They seem to glow with an inner light. Some look up as you pass and smile, but you cannot stop - the music compels you to move onward through the crowd.
Through the gathering dusk you see a seeluded gypsy wagon sitting off in the woods. The music seems to emenate from the wagon. As you draw near, a woman's voice weaves into the music, saying: "You may approach, O seeker."

You enter to find an old gypsy sitting in a small curtained room. She wears an Ankh around her neck. In front of her is a round table convered in deep green velvet. The room smells so heavily of incense that you feel dizzy.
Seeing the Ankh, the ancient gypsy smiles and warns you never to part with it. "We have been waiting such a long time, but at last you have come. Sit here and I shall read the path of your future."
Upon the table she places a curious wooden object like an abacus but without beads. In her hands she holds eight unusual cards. "Let us begin the casting."
You answer the gypsy questions.
With the final choice, the incense swells up around you. The gypsy speeks as if from a great distance, her voice growing fainter with each word: "So be it! Thy path is chosen!"
There is a moment of intense, wrenching vertigo. As you open your eyes, a vioce whispers within your mind, "Seek the counsel of thy sovereign." After a moment, the spinning subsides, and you open your eyes to ...
All is Dark ...
But wait ...
Where am I ...
Am I dead ...
Afterlife
You hear: ...
I feel motion
Lord British says: I have pulled thy spirit and some possessions from the void. Be more careful in the future !

(Erdgeschoss) (Erste Etage)
Lord British rises and says: At long last! Thou hast come! We have waited such a long, long time...
Lord British sits and says: A new age is upon Britannia. The great evil Lords are gone but our people lack direction and purpose in their lives... A champion of virtue is called for. Thou may be this champion, but only time shall tell. I will aid thee any way that I can! How may I help thee?
LOOK: Thou see the King with the Royal Sceptre
JOB: I rule all Britannia, and shall do my best to help thee!
HEALTH: I am well, thank ye.
Query: Art thou well?
YES: That is good.
NO: Let me heal thy wounds! (heals all party wounds)
BRITANNIA: Even though the Great Evil Lords have been routed evil yet remains in Britannia. If but one soul could complete the Quest of the Avatar, our people would have a new hope, a new goal for life. There would be a shining example that there is more to life than the endless struggle for possessions and gold!
MONDAIN: Mondain is dead!
MINAX: Minax is dead!
EXODUS: Exodus is dead!
QUEST: The Quest of the Avatar is to know and become the embodiment of the Eight Virtues of Goodness! It is known that all who take on this Quest must prove themselves by conquering the Abyss and Viewing the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom!
ABYSS: The Great Stygian Abyss is the darkest pocket of evil remaining in Britannia! It is said that in the deepest recesses of the Abyss is the Chamber of the Codex! It is also said that only one of highest Virtue may enter this Chamber, one such as an Avatar!!!
AVATAR: To be an Avatar is to be the embodiment of the Eight Virtues. It is to live a life constantly and forever in the Quest to better thyself and the world in which we live.
VIRTUES: The Eight Virtues of the Avatar are Honesty, Compassion, Valor, Justice, Sacrifice, Honor, Spirituality, and Humility!
HONESTY: The fair towne of Moonglow on Verity Isle is where the virtue of Honesty thrives!
COMPASSION: The bards in the towne of Britain are well versed in the virtue of Compassion!
VALOR: Many valiant fighters come from Jhelom in the Valarian Isles!
JUSTICE: In the city of Yew, in the Deep Forest, Justice is served!
SACRIFICE: Minoc, towne of self-sacrifice, lies on the eastern shores of Lost Hope Bay!
HONOR: The Paladins who strive for Honor are oft seen in Trinsic, north of the Cape of Heroes!
SPIRITUALITY: In Skara Brae the Spiritual path is taught. Find it on an isle near Spiritwood!
HUMILITY: Humility is the foundation of Virtue! The ruins of proud Magincia are a testimony unto the Virtue of Humility! Find the Ruins of Magincia far off the shores of Britannia, on a small isle in the vast Ocean!
PRIDE: Of the eight combinations of Truth, Love and Courage, that which contains neither Truth, Love nor Courage is Pride. Pride being not a Virtue must be shunned in favor of Humility, the Virtue which is the antithesis of Pride!
TRUTH: Many truths can be learned at the Lycaeum. It lies on the northwestern shore of Verity Isle!
LOVE: Look for the meaning of Love at Empath Abbey. The Abbey sits on the western edge of the Deep Forest!
COURAGE: Serpent's Castle on the Isle of Deeds is where Courage should be sought!
ANKH: The Ankh is the symbol of one who strives for Virtue. Keep it with thee at all times for by this mark thou shalt be known!
HELP: To survive in this hostile land thou must first know thyself! Seek ye to master thy weapons and thy magical ability! Take care in these thy first travels in Britannia... Until thou dost know well thyself, travel not far from the savety of the townes!
BYE: Fare thee well my friend!

NAME: My name is Lord British, Sovereign of all Britannia!
Welcome ..., what would thou ask of me?
HELP: Travel not the open lands alone. There are many worthy people in the diverse townes whom it would be wise to ask to Join thee! Build thy party unto eight travellers, for only a true leader can win the Quest!
HELP: Learn ye the paths of virtue. Seek to gain entry unto the eight shriens! Find ye the Runes, needed for entry into each shrine, and learn each chant or "Mantra" used to focus thy meditations... Within the Shrines thou shalt learn of the deeds which show thy inner virtue or vice!
HELP: Choose thy path wisely for all thy deeds of good and evil are remembered and can return to hinder thee! Visit the Seer Hawkwind often and use his wisdom to help thee prove thy Virtue. When thou art ready, Hawkwind will advise thee to seek the Elevation unto partial Avatarhood in a virtue... Seek ye to become a partial Avatar in all eight virtues, for only then shalt thou be ready to seek the codex!
BYE: Fare thee well my friend!

| Start | Ziel |
| Moonglow | Moonglow - Britain - Jhelom |

Enter the Shrine of Honesty
You enter the ancient Shrine and sit before the altar ...
Upon what virtue dost thou meditate?
For how many cycles (0-3)?
Thy thoughts are pure. Thou art granted a vision !
1 Cycle: Take not the gold of others found in towns and castles for yours it is not !
2 Cycles: Cheat not the merchants and peddlers for tis an evil thing to do !
3 Cycles: Second, read the Book of Truth at the entrance of The Great Stygian Abyss !
3 Cycles & (++) in Honesty: Thou hast achieved partial Avatarhood in the Virtue of Honesty. Thou art granted a vision !

1 Cycle: Kill not the non evil beasts of the land, and do not attack fair people !
2 Cycles: Give of thy purse to those who beg and thy deed shall not be forgotten !
3 Cycles: Third, light the Candle of Love at the entrance at The Great Stygian Abyss !
3 Cycles & (++) in Compassion: Thou hast achieved partial Avatarhood in the Virtue of Compassion. Thou art granted a vision !

1 Cycle: Victories scored over evil creatures help to build a valorous soul !
2 Cycles: To flee from battle with less than grievous wounds often shows a coward !
3 Cycles: First, ring the Bell of Courage at the entrance to The Great Stygian Abyss !

1 Cycle: To give thy last gold piece unto the needy shows good measure of self-sacrifice !
2 Cycles: For thee to flee and leave thy companions is a self-serving action to be avoided !
3 Cycles: To give of thy life's blood so that others may live is a virtue of great praise !

1 Cycle: Seek ye to know thyself. Visit the seer often for he can see into thy inner being !
2 Cycles: Meditation leads to enlightenment. Seek ye all Wisdom and Knowledge !
3 Cycles: If thou dost seek the White Stone, search ye not under the ground, but in Serpent's Spine !
3 Cycles & (++) in Spirituality: Thou hast achieved partial Avatarhood in the Virtue of Spirituality. Thou art granted a vision !

1 Cycle: Claim not to be that which thou art not. Humble actions speak well of thee !
2 Cycles: Strive not to wield the Great Force of Evil for its power will overcome thee !
3 Cycles: If thou dost seek the Black Stone, search ye at the Time and Place of the Gate on the darkest of all nights !
3 Cycles & (++) in Humility: Thou hast achieved partial Avatarhood in the Virtue of Humility. Thou art granted a vision !

NAME: My name is Lord British, Sovereign of all Britannia!
Welcome ..., what would thou ask of me?
HELP: Go ye now into the depths of the dungeons. Therein recover the 8 colored stones from the altar pedestals in the halls of the dungeons... Find the uses of these stones for they can help thee in the Abyss!
HELP: Thou art doing very well indeed on the path to Avatarhood! Strive ye to achieve the Elevation in all eight virtues!
BYE: Fare thee well my friend!

Magical Ball: Intelligence +5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 200 Punkte
Nightshade
Spiritwood: J'F" C'O"
Binnensee Generosity: C'M" M'N"
Mandrake Root
Bloody Plains: D'G" L'G"
Fens of Death: K'F" G'E"

Magical Ball: Dexterity +5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 200 Punkte

Magical Ball: Strength +5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 200 Punkte

Magical Ball: Intelligence & Desterity + 5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 400 Punkte

Magical Ball: Desterity & Strength + 5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 400 Punkte

Magical Ball: Intelligence & Strength + 5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 400 Punkte

Magical Ball: Intelligence & Dexterity & Strength + 5 Punkte, Hitpoints - 600 Punkte
NAME: My name is Lord British, Sovereign of all Britannia!

HELP: Find ye the Bell, Book and Candle! With these three things, one may enter the Great Stygian Abyss!

7.05.02) Der Key of Three Parts:
NAME: My name is Lord British, Sovereign of all Britannia!
Welcome ..., what would thou ask of me?
HELP: Before thou dost enter the Abyss thou shalt need the Key of Three Parts, and the Word of Passage... Then might thou enter the Chamber of the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom!
BYE: Fare thee well my friend!
Moonglow - Dungeon Deceit - Blauer Stein
Yew - Dungeon Wrong - Grüner Stein
Trinsic - Dungeon Shame - Purpurner Stein
Britain - Dungeon Despise - Gelber Stein
Minoc - Dungeon Covetous - Oranger Stein
Trinsic - Dungeon Shame - Purpurner Stein
Jhelom - Dungeon Destard - Roter Stein
Yew - Dungeon Wrong - Grüner Stein
Minoc - Dungeon Covetous - Oranger Stein
7.06) The Great Stygian Abyss:
NAME: My name is Lord British, Sovereign of all Britannia!
Welcome ..., what would thou ask of me?
HELP: Thou dost now seem ready to make the final journey into the dark Abyss! Go only with a party of eight! Good Luck, and may the powers of good watch over thee on this thy most periolous endeavor! The hearts and souls of all Britannia go with thee now. Take care, my friend...
BYE: Fare thee well my friend!

As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Truth?
-Honesty-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Blue-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Love?
-Compassion-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Yellow-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Courage?
-Valor-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Red-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Truth and Love?
-Justice-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Green-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Love and Courage?
-Sacrifice-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Orange-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Truth and Courage?
-Honor-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Purple-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue dost stem from Truth, Love and Courage?
-Sacrifice-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -White-
As thou doth approach, a voice rings out:
What virtue exists independently of Truth, Love and Courage?
-Humility-
The Voice says: Use thy Stone
Color: -Black-
There is a sudden darkness, and you find yourself alone in an empty chamber.
You use your Key of Three Parts.
A voice rings out: "What is the Word of Passage?"
VERAMOCOR
Passage is granted.
The voice asks:
What dost tou possess if all may rely upon every word?
HONESTY
The voice asks:
What quality compels one to share in the journeys of other?
COMPASSION
The voice asks:
What answers when great deeds are called for?
VALOR
The voice asks:
What should be the same for Lord and Serf alike?
JUSTICE
The voice asks:
What is loath to place the self abore aught else?
SACRIFICE
The voice asks:
What shivles no duty?
HONOR
The voice asks:
What, in knowing the true self, knows all?
SPIRITUALITY
The voice asks:
What is the wich Serfs are born with but Nobles must strive to obtain?
HUMILITY
Thou art well in the virtues of the Avatar.
The voice asks:
If all else is imaginary, this is real ...
TRUTH
The voice asks:
What plunges to the depths, while soaring on heights?
LOVE
The voice asks:
What turns not away from any peril?
COURAGE
The floor rumbles beneath your feet.

If all eight virtues of the Avatar combine into and are derived from the Three Principles of Truth, Love and Courage ...
Then what is the one thing which encompasses and is the whole of all undeniable Truth, unending Love and unyielding Courage?

INFINITY
The bountless knowledge of the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom is revealed unto thee.

The voice says: Thou hast proven tyself to be truly good in nature.
Thou must know that ty quest to become an Avatar is the endless quest of a lifetime.
Avatarhood is a living gift. It must always and forever be nurtured to flourish.
For if thou dost stray from the path of virtue, thy way may be lost forever.
Return now unto thine own world. Live there as an example to thy people, as our memory of thy gallant deeds serves us.
7.08) Das Ende:
As the sound of the voice trails off, darkness seems to rise around you. There is a moment of intense, wrenching vertigo.

You open your eyes to a familiar circle of stones. You wonder of your recent adventures.
It seems a time and place very distant. You wonder if it really happened. Then you realize that in your hand you hold The Ankh.
You walk away from the circle, knowing that you can always return from whence you came, since you now know the secret of the gates.
CONGRATULATIONS !
Thou hast completed
